Short answer: Navratri falls in mid-October 2026 and Dussehra on 20 October, about three weeks later than usual. It is a traditional window for new purchases in India, and it sits after the big platform sales but well before Diwali on 8 November. For electronics, the practical guidance is simple: buy what you had already decided to buy, and do not let the date choose the product. In-stock picks start at Rs 699 for a boAt neckband and Rs 22,490 for a Grade A Certified Dell Latitude.

The 2026 dates

Event Date
Navratri Mid-October 2026
Dussehra / Vijayadashami Tuesday 20 October 2026
Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) Sunday 8 November 2026

The Hindu calendar this year includes an extra month, which pushes the whole season roughly three weeks later than last year. Regional observance varies, so confirm dates against your local panchang.

What actually happens to prices in this window

Less than the marketing suggests, and it is worth saying plainly.

The genuinely deeper platform discounts land in the Big Billion Days and Great Indian Festival window, which this year was expected in late September. By Navratri, most of that is over. What runs through October is largely bank card offers, exchange bonuses and EMI schemes rather than lower prices.

That is not a criticism — an EMI offer can be genuinely useful. It is just a different thing from a discount, and it is worth knowing which one you are being given.

The honest guidance for this window

  1. Buy what you already decided to buy. The most expensive purchase of any Indian festive season is the one the season created rather than satisfied.
  2. Check the price history, not the strike-through. MRP is a legal ceiling, not a market price, so a percentage measured against it tells you very little.
  3. Read the bank offer conditions. A Rs 5,000 instant discount usually carries a specific card, a minimum order and a much lower cap than the headline.
  4. Check the exact variant. With memory prices high in 2026, listings more often push a lower-RAM or lower-storage configuration than the one that was reviewed.
  5. If it is a gift, keep the invoice. It is what makes a return or a warranty claim possible.

One genuinely time-sensitive thing this October

Not a festive offer, but a deadline that matters more than any of them: consumer Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 end on 13 October 2026, which falls in this exact window. After that date, home Windows 10 machines stop receiving security patches.

If your laptop is Intel 8th Generation or newer with TPM 2.0, upgrade to Windows 11 free — it takes about an hour and costs nothing. If it is 7th Gen or older, it is not eligible, and this is a real reason to replace rather than a manufactured one. Every laptop we list is 8th Gen or newer for exactly this reason.

Check yours: Windows key plus R, type tpm.msc for the security chip, then Settings, System, About for the processor generation.

What to leave until later, or skip entirely

  • A phone you have not researched. Screen size and ecosystem are personal choices. A rushed festive phone purchase is regretted for two years.
  • Anything bought purely because of an EMI offer. Zero interest on something you did not need is still money you did not have.
  • A laptop with soldered 8GB RAM. In a year when memory doubled in price, buying a machine you cannot upgrade is a poor decision at any discount.
  • Unbranded audio. It breaks within months, and a broken gift is worse than a smaller one that lasts.
  • An unchecked second-hand device. This is the highest-volume season for ungraded stock in India. Ask for battery health as a number and a GST invoice, from anyone.

Who should NOT buy anything this festive season

  • Anyone whose current devices work fine. There is no obligation to buy something because a date has arrived.
  • Anyone stretching onto long EMI for an upgrade rather than a need.
  • Anyone who has not compared at least two options. Two hours of comparison saves more than any festive offer.

We do not run a festive sale. Our prices are set by what a unit costs us and the condition it arrives in, and they are live on every product page all year. We would rather tell you that than invent a discount.

Frequently asked questions

When is Dussehra 2026?

Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, falls on Tuesday 20 October 2026, with Navratri running through mid-October. Diwali follows on Sunday 8 November. Regional observance varies, so confirm against your local panchang.

Are electronics cheaper during Navratri and Dussehra?

Less than during the September platform sales. October typically brings bank card offers, exchange bonuses and EMI schemes rather than lower prices. Both are useful; they are not the same thing.

Is Dussehra a good day to buy a laptop?

It is traditionally considered auspicious for new purchases, and that is a perfectly good reason to choose the day. Just choose the product on its merits and the day for the occasion, rather than the other way round.

What is the best budget laptop to gift this Dussehra?

The Dell Latitude 7490 Core i5 or Latitude 5400 Core i7, both Rs 22,490, Grade A Certified, Windows 11 eligible, with a 6-month warranty, 7-day returns and a GST invoice.

Should I wait for Diwali instead?

For electronics, waiting from Dussehra to Diwali rarely changes the price much. If you need it now, buy now. The bigger discount window this year was in late September.

Does NewAsNew have festive offers?

No. Prices are live on every product page year-round and we do not raise them before a festival in order to discount them during it. What every order includes is the same all year: a 6-month Assured Warranty, 7-day returns, a GST invoice, no-cost or low-cost EMI and delivery to over 20,000 pincodes.
