Short answer: Buy the refurbished iPhone 14 at ₹34,990 rather than the iPhone 13 at ₹30,390. The gap is ₹4,600 and it buys you a genuinely better main camera with Apple’s Photonic Engine, crash detection, satellite SOS and — the reason that matters most on a used phone — one full year less wear on the battery and one more year of iOS updates. The iPhone 13 is still a good buy if ₹30,390 is your ceiling, but it is not the smarter purchase.

The two phones, side by side
The iPhone 14 was one of Apple’s most criticised releases because it looked like the iPhone 13 and shared its A15 Bionic chip. That criticism was fair when both phones were new and the gap was ₹10,000 or more. In the refurbished market in India in 2026 the gap is ₹4,600, and the calculation changes completely — because when you buy used, the age of the phone is itself a spec.

What ₹4,600 actually gets you
Four things, in order of how much they will matter to you in daily use.
1. A meaningfully better main camera
This is the real upgrade. The iPhone 14 uses a physically larger main sensor with a faster aperture — the same sensor Apple put in the iPhone 13 Pro. Combined with the Photonic Engine, which applies Apple’s computational processing earlier in the pipeline, the difference shows up exactly where phone cameras usually fall apart: indoor light, evening light, and any photograph of a moving child or pet. In bright daylight the two phones are close enough that you would struggle to pick them apart.
The front camera also gains autofocus on the iPhone 14. If you shoot video of yourself, take a lot of selfies, or spend your day on video calls, that is a visible improvement rather than a spec-sheet one.
2. A GPU core, and slightly better sustained performance
Both phones run the A15 Bionic, but the iPhone 14 gets the 5-core GPU variant that Apple originally reserved for the 13 Pro, along with more RAM. In ordinary use — WhatsApp, Instagram, UPI apps, YouTube, Chrome — you will not feel it. In gaming and long video exports you will, slightly. Do not pay ₹4,600 for this alone.
3. Crash Detection and satellite SOS
Crash Detection can automatically call emergency services after a severe car accident. Satellite SOS lets you send an emergency message with no mobile network, which in India is relevant if you trek, ride long distance, or travel through hill and forest routes where coverage dies. Most people will never use either feature. The ones who need it, need it badly.
4. One year less battery wear — the refurbished-specific reason
This is the argument that does not appear in any new-phone review, and it is the strongest one here. An iPhone 13 has been charging and discharging for roughly a year longer than an iPhone 14. Every full charge cycle takes a small amount of capacity away permanently, and there is no way to reverse it. Two phones on our shelf can both be honestly described as Grade A Certified and still have different amounts of useful battery life left, purely because of age.
We state a measured battery health band on every listing rather than a marketing number, and we will never claim a used iPhone is at 100%. Check the band on the specific unit before you decide — our guide to what battery health percentage is actually acceptable explains what the numbers mean in real hours of use.
What is identical, and where you should not expect a difference
Be clear about what ₹4,600 does not buy. The display is the same 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED panel — neither phone has ProMotion, and neither has the Dynamic Island. The design, the size, the weight and the Face ID notch are effectively the same. Both use Lightning, not USB-C. Both have the same ultra-wide camera. Both support MagSafe, 5G on Indian networks, and the same iOS version today.
If you were hoping the iPhone 14 feels like a new class of phone next to the iPhone 13, it does not. It feels like the same phone with a better camera and a fresher battery. That is precisely why the ₹4,600 gap, rather than the original ₹10,000 gap, makes it worth buying.
The verdict
Buy the iPhone 14 at ₹34,990 if you can stretch to it. On a refurbished purchase you are buying remaining life as much as you are buying features, and ₹4,600 for a year of that plus a better camera is the correct trade.
Buy the iPhone 13 at ₹30,390 if ₹30,000 is a genuine ceiling, if you mostly use WhatsApp, UPI, YouTube and calls, or if you photograph in daylight and do not care about low-light quality. It is not a bad phone. It is a phone whose main weakness is that it is a year older, and you should price that in rather than ignore it.
Buy neither if you want ProMotion or a telephoto lens. In that case save for the iPhone 13 Pro at ₹44,990, which we cover in our best refurbished iPhones under ₹50,000 guide.
Who should not buy either of these
- You want a brand-new battery and a full manufacturer warranty. A new mid-range Android at ₹30,000 gives you both. That is a legitimate choice and we will say so.
- You keep phones for five or six years. Both of these have already spent part of their software support life. An iPhone 15 at ₹47,490 has a longer runway.
- You are gaming seriously. Neither of these has a 120Hz display, and that is more limiting than the chip.
- Your budget genuinely stops near ₹22,000. Look at the iPhone 12 at ₹21,990 instead — see our refurbished iPhones under ₹30,000 guide.
Buying either one safely in India
Both phones are Grade A Certified: professionally restored, passed through our 50-point quality check, sold with a stated battery health band, a 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty, a GST invoice in your name and a 7-day return window. To be explicit, that is our warranty, not Apple’s — we do not claim Apple coverage on a refurbished unit, and batteries, physical damage and liquid damage are excluded, as they are under brand warranties.
Whoever you buy from, verify the IMEI yourself before your return window closes. Our verification guide shows how, and the refurbished iPhone checklist covers what to inspect in the first 48 hours.
Frequently asked questions
Is the iPhone 14 worth ₹4,600 more than the iPhone 13 refurbished?
Yes, for most buyers. The iPhone 14 has a larger main camera sensor with Photonic Engine processing, an autofocus front camera, crash detection and satellite SOS. More importantly on a used phone, it is a year newer, so its battery has been through fewer charge cycles and it has more remaining years of iOS updates. At ₹34,990 against ₹30,390, that is a reasonable premium.
Is the iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 camera better?
The iPhone 14 camera is better, mainly in low light and indoors. It uses a physically larger main sensor with a faster aperture and Apple’s Photonic Engine, which processes the image earlier in the pipeline for cleaner results in dim conditions. In good daylight the two are very close. The iPhone 14 also adds autofocus to the front camera, which the iPhone 13 lacks.
Do the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 have the same processor?
Both use the A15 Bionic, but the iPhone 14 gets the 5-core GPU version and more RAM, while the iPhone 13 has the 4-core GPU version. In everyday use — messaging, browsing, UPI apps, video — the difference is not noticeable. It shows up slightly in gaming and long video exports. Do not choose between these two phones on chip performance alone.
What battery health should I accept on a refurbished iPhone 13 or 14?
Treat 85% as your minimum and ask for the measured figure before you pay. Below 85% you will feel it by evening on a heavy day. NewAsNew states a measured band on every listing rather than claiming a number, and never claims 100% on a used phone. Batteries are excluded from warranty everywhere, including Apple’s, so this is the one specification worth being strict about.
Does a refurbished iPhone 13 or 14 come with Apple warranty?
No. Both come with a 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty, not Apple coverage — we do not claim Apple warranty on refurbished units. You also get a GST invoice in your name, 7-day returns, and every unit passes our 50-point quality check before listing. Batteries, physical damage and liquid damage are excluded from the warranty.
Will the iPhone 13 stop getting iOS updates before the iPhone 14?
Yes, most likely, because it is a year older — though Apple does not announce an end date for any model in advance, so nobody can give you a specific year honestly. The reliable way to reason about it is by age: a newer phone gets more remaining updates. If you plan to keep the phone four or five years, that alone justifies the iPhone 14.
Is EMI available on a refurbished iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 in India?
Yes, card EMI is available at checkout on most Indian debit and credit cards. The iPhone 13 at ₹30,390 works out to roughly ₹5,100 per month over six months and the iPhone 14 at ₹34,990 to roughly ₹5,900 per month, before any bank interest. Message us on WhatsApp with your card details type and we will confirm which EMI options apply.
The honest bottom line
On a new-phone shelf, the iPhone 14 was a poor upgrade over the iPhone 13. On a refurbished shelf at a ₹4,600 gap, it is the better buy — not because the features are transformative, but because you are also buying a year less wear and a year more software life. Pay the difference if you can. If you cannot, the iPhone 13 at ₹30,390 will serve you well; just check the stated battery health band before you commit.
