Short answer: The iPhone 15 at Rs 47,490 is genuinely better than the iPhone 14 at Rs 34,990 — USB-C, the 48MP main camera, Dynamic Island, the A16 chip and a much brighter screen are all real improvements. But it costs Rs 12,500 more, which is 36%. For most Indian buyers that money is better kept, and the iPhone 14 is the smarter purchase. Buy the 15 if USB-C matters to your daily life or you photograph a lot.

Is USB-C worth it on its own?

This is the deciding factor for a lot of people, so treat it seriously rather than as a checkbox.

It matters if everything else you own already uses USB-C — an Android tablet, a laptop, headphones, a power bank, a camera. Carrying one cable instead of two is a small daily improvement that adds up. It also charges faster from a decent charger and can move files at proper speed.

It does not matter if you have Lightning cables in your car, at your desk, at your bedside and in your bag, and you replace your phone every three years. In that case USB-C is a Rs 12,500 inconvenience, not a Rs 12,500 upgrade.

Be honest about which of those you are. Most people buying at this price point in India are the second.

The camera difference, in plain terms

The iPhone 15 has a 48MP sensor against the 14 twelve. In practice it outputs 24MP photos by default, and the real benefit is not resolution — it is that the extra pixels allow a 2x zoom that is a sensor crop rather than digital enlargement. That gives you a usable second focal length without a second lens.

In good light, side by side, most people cannot tell 14 photos from 15 photos. In low light, and at 2x, the 15 is clearly better. If you photograph people and events regularly, that is worth something. If your camera roll is receipts and screenshots, it is not.

What is the same on both

Worth listing, because it is most of the phone. Both have a 6.1-inch OLED screen at 60Hz, the same two-camera layout with ultrawide, Face ID, 5G, MagSafe, Crash Detection, IP68 water resistance, very similar build and very similar battery life. Neither has ProMotion 120Hz, which remains a Pro feature.

What Rs 12,500 buys elsewhere

  • A Sony WH-CH720N ANC headphone at Rs 5,890 plus a Sony WF-C510 at Rs 2,990, with change left over.
  • Most of the way to an iPhone 12 at Rs 21,990 as a second phone or a family handset.
  • An out-of-warranty battery and screen replacement, twice over.

None of that means the iPhone 15 is bad value. It means the iPhone 14 is very good value, which is a different statement.

Who should buy which

  • Buy the iPhone 14 at Rs 34,990 if you want the best price-to-capability ratio, you already own Lightning cables, and your photography is casual. This is most people.
  • Buy the iPhone 15 at Rs 47,490 if USB-C genuinely simplifies your day, you take a lot of photos, you use your phone outdoors in bright sunlight often, or you plan to keep it five or more years.
  • Buy neither if your budget is really Rs 30,000 — the iPhone 13 at Rs 30,390 does almost everything the 14 does. Stretching on EMI for a marginal upgrade is the most common mistake we see.
  • Buy neither if you want 120Hz smoothness or a telephoto lens. Those need a Pro model — the iPhone 13 Pro at Rs 44,990 or the 14 Pro at Rs 55,990.

Frequently asked questions

Is the iPhone 15 worth Rs 12,500 more than the iPhone 14?

For most buyers, no. The improvements are real but incremental. It becomes worth it if USB-C simplifies your cable situation, if you photograph frequently, or if you intend to keep the phone five or more years.

Does the iPhone 14 still get iOS updates in 2026?

Yes. Apple typically provides major iOS updates for around five to seven years from launch. The iPhone 14 launched in 2022 and has meaningful support life remaining.

Is the iPhone 15 camera much better?

In low light and at 2x zoom, clearly. In good daylight, the difference is small enough that most people cannot identify which phone took which photo.

Do both support 5G in India?

Yes, both support the 5G bands used by Indian networks.

Which has better battery life?

They are very close in real use. Neither is a battery standout. If battery life is your priority, the iPhone 14 Plus at Rs 39,490 outperforms both by a wide margin.

Are both available Grade A Certified with a warranty?

Yes. Both are in stock as of 6 September 2026, both pass our 50-point check across 14 smartphone test areas, and both come with a 6-month NewAsNew Assured Warranty, 7-day returns and a GST invoice.
