Short answer: Buy the refurbished MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 at ₹41,990 only if you need macOS specifically — Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, iOS development — or if screen, speakers and trackpad quality matter more to you than anything else. For everyone else at this budget, an 11th Gen Windows business laptop such as the Dell Latitude 5421 Core i7 at ₹44,990 is the better machine: newer silicon, half the weight to carry, a far longer software support runway and cheap repairs in India.

What you are actually choosing between
The Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 at ₹41,990 is the 2019 model: a 6-core Intel Core i7 from Intel’s 9th Gen H-series, an AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of dedicated graphics memory, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. It is a Grade A Certified unit and it is in stock.
On the Windows side at roughly the same money, the in-stock option is the Dell Latitude 5421 Core i7 11th Gen H-Series at ₹44,990. The HP EliteBook 840 G8 Core i5 11th Gen at ₹34,990 and the Dell Latitude 5520 Core i5 11th Gen at ₹28,990 sit lower in the band but are both out of stock as we publish this, so treat them as context rather than as picks today.
This is one of the harder comparisons we write, because both machines are genuinely good at completely different things, and the honest answer contains some things Apple buyers will not enjoy reading.
The MacBook Pro 16-inch: what is genuinely excellent
We are not going to be coy about this. There are four areas where nothing in the Windows business world at ₹40,000 comes close.
The display. The 16-inch Retina panel runs at a much higher resolution than the Full HD screens on business laptops, covers a wide colour gamut, and is noticeably brighter. If you look at a screen for eight hours a day, or if colour accuracy affects your work, this is not a small difference. It is the single strongest reason to buy this machine.
The speakers. The six-speaker system in the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the best sound in any laptop of this era by a wide margin, with actual bass. Business laptops sound like business laptops. If you edit audio, watch a lot of content, or take calls without headphones, you will notice this every day.
The trackpad. Apple’s Force Touch trackpad is large, glass, and pressure-sensitive with no physical hinge, and macOS gesture handling is better tuned than Windows equivalents. Latitude and EliteBook trackpads are fine. This one is in a different class.
The build and the keyboard. The 16-inch A2141 was the model where Apple abandoned the troubled butterfly keyboard and returned to a scissor-switch Magic Keyboard. That matters a great deal for a second-hand purchase, because it means this generation does not carry the sticking-key reputation of the 2016 to 2018 MacBook Pros. The unibody aluminium chassis is still one of the most rigid laptop bodies ever made.
The MacBook Pro 16-inch: what you must know before buying
It is heavy. Roughly 2 kg for the machine, plus a large charger. This is a 16-inch laptop and it does not pretend otherwise. Carrying it daily on a commute is a real commitment.
It runs hot and the fans are loud. A 6-core H-series Intel chip plus a discrete AMD GPU inside a thin aluminium body produces more heat than that body can quietly move. Under a long export or a long compile, the fans are audible and the chassis gets warm. This is not a defect; it is what this generation of Intel MacBook is.
Battery life is average, not Apple-grade. The battery is large, but Intel plus a discrete GPU eats it. Expect a working day of light use only if you are gentle, and considerably less under load. If you have read about Apple Silicon MacBooks running all day, that is not this machine.
It is late in Apple’s software support runway. Apple has stated that macOS Tahoe is the final macOS release to support Intel Macs, with security updates continuing for a period after that. In practice this machine will keep working and keep receiving security patches for a while yet, but you should assume it will not receive major new macOS features indefinitely, and that some professional applications will move to Apple Silicon only over time. Buy it for what it does today, not for what it might run in 2030.
Ports. Four Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports and a headphone jack. No HDMI, no SD card, no USB-A. Budget ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 for a hub.
Nothing is upgradable. RAM and storage are soldered. The 16GB and 512GB in this unit are what you have forever. That is enough for most work, but it is a hard ceiling.
Out-of-warranty repair in India is expensive. A logic board or a display on a MacBook Pro costs multiples of the equivalent Latitude part. Your NewAsNew Assured warranty covers you for six months; after that, Apple economics apply.

Where macOS genuinely wins, and where it does not
Some work is simply better on a Mac, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro do not exist on Windows at all, and if your editing or music workflow is built on them, the decision is made for you. iOS and iPadOS development requires Xcode, which requires macOS — if you are building apps for the App Store, you need a Mac, full stop. Colour work benefits from the display. And if your phone, tablet and other devices are Apple, the handoff, AirDrop and Messages integration is a real daily convenience.
Now the other side. Tally does not run natively on macOS, and for a very large number of Indian buyers that alone ends the conversation. Microsoft Office on Mac is good but not identical to the Windows version, and complex Excel workbooks with VBA macros regularly misbehave. Government portals, GST utilities, banking tokens, DSC USB dongles and a lot of Indian enterprise software assume Windows. Many college and corporate IT departments only support Windows.
One genuine advantage of an Intel Mac over an Apple Silicon Mac: it can run Windows natively through Boot Camp. If you want macOS most of the time and Windows occasionally for one stubborn application, this machine can do both, and a newer Apple Silicon MacBook cannot.
Who should stretch to Apple Silicon instead
If you want a Mac and you can wait or stretch the budget, buying Apple Silicon rather than an end-of-runway Intel machine is the better long-term decision. The Apple MacBook Air 2024 13.6-inch with the M3 chip, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD at ₹74,990 is Unboxed — opened box, never used — and carries remaining original Apple warranty on top of our cover. It is silent, has no fan at all, weighs about half what the 16-inch Pro weighs, and will get macOS updates for years.
What you give up: the M3 Air has 8GB of RAM against the Intel machine’s 16GB, 256GB of storage against 512GB, a 13.6-inch screen against 16 inches, and no discrete GPU. For heavy video work with large files, the older 16-inch Pro can still be the more practical tool. For everything else, the Air is the machine we would rather own. The larger MacBook Pro A2485 with the M1 Pro chip at ₹93,990 is also listed but out of stock as we publish.
Our verdict: buy Mac if, buy Windows if
Buy the MacBook Pro 16-inch at ₹41,990 if: you work in Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro; you develop for iOS; you sit at a desk and stare at the screen all day and want the best panel and speakers you can get for the money; you already live in the Apple ecosystem; you want one machine that can also boot Windows.
Buy the Windows business laptop at ₹32,990 to ₹39,990 if: you use Tally, GST portals, DSC dongles or Windows-only office software; you carry your laptop every day and 400 extra grams matters; you want a machine that will be cheap to repair in Nehru Place or Lamington Road in 2029; you want a long, boring, guaranteed software support runway; you want ports without dongles.
If you are undecided and your work is ordinary office work, buy the Windows machine and spend the difference on a monitor. If your work is creative and macOS-shaped, the MacBook is worth its compromises. There is no universally correct answer here, and anyone who gives you one is not thinking about your work.

Frequently asked questions
Is a refurbished Intel MacBook Pro worth buying in 2026?
It is worth buying only if you need macOS specifically or you want the screen, speakers and trackpad quality. Apple has stated that macOS Tahoe is the last macOS release to support Intel Macs, so a 2019 MacBook Pro 16-inch at ₹41,990 is late in its software life even though it still works well today. For general Windows-compatible work, an 11th Gen business laptop at ₹39,990 is the sounder purchase.
MacBook Pro or Dell Latitude at ₹40,000 in India?
Choose the Dell Latitude 5421 Core i7 11th Gen at ₹44,990 for general work, Tally, Office, portability and cheap repairs. Choose the MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 at ₹41,990 for Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, iOS development or if screen and audio quality dominate your decision. The Latitude has newer silicon and is roughly 400 grams lighter; the MacBook has a far better display.
Can I run Tally on a MacBook?
Not natively — Tally is a Windows application and there is no native macOS version. You can run it on an Intel MacBook through Boot Camp by installing Windows, or through virtualisation software, but both add cost and complexity. If Tally is central to your work, buy a Windows business laptop. This is the single most common reason we steer Indian buyers away from a Mac.
How heavy is the 16-inch MacBook Pro compared to a business laptop?
The MacBook Pro 16-inch weighs roughly 2 kg, against roughly 1.6 kg for a Dell Latitude 5421 and about 1.32 kg for an HP EliteBook 840 G8. Add the MacBook’s large charger and the gap in a daily bag grows further. If you commute with your laptop every day in an Indian city, this difference is worth taking seriously before you fall for the screen.
Does the 2019 MacBook Pro have the faulty butterfly keyboard?
No. The 16-inch MacBook Pro A2141 launched in late 2019 was the model where Apple replaced the butterfly mechanism with the scissor-switch Magic Keyboard. That makes this generation a much safer second-hand purchase than the 2016 to 2018 MacBook Pros, which had well-documented sticking and repeating key problems. Every unit we list also passes our 50-point quality check, which includes testing every key.
Should I buy an Apple Silicon MacBook instead?
If you want a Mac and can stretch the budget, yes. The MacBook Air 2024 with the M3 chip at ₹74,990 is Unboxed, silent, roughly half the weight, and will receive macOS updates for years. The trade-off is 8GB RAM against 16GB, 256GB storage against 512GB, and a 13.6-inch screen against 16 inches. For heavy video editing, the older Intel 16-inch may still suit you better.
Can I upgrade the RAM or SSD in a refurbished MacBook Pro?
No. RAM and storage are soldered to the logic board on this machine, so the 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD are permanent. This is a real disadvantage against a Dell Latitude or HP EliteBook, where both RAM and SSD are user-replaceable and cheap to upgrade. Buy the MacBook only if 16GB and 512GB are enough for your work for the machine’s whole life.
Does a refurbished MacBook from NewAsNew come with a warranty?
Yes. Every Grade A Certified MacBook carries a 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty, a GST invoice in your name and a 7-day return window, and passes our 50-point quality check with the measured battery health band stated on the listing. Batteries, physical damage and liquid damage are excluded. Unboxed Apple machines additionally carry the remaining original Apple warranty.
