Short answer: Yes. Every NewAsNew order ships with a proper GST invoice from NextG Serve Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi — including refurbished and unboxed units. Buy a Dell Latitude 5490 (Core i5 8th Gen) at ₹23,490 and you receive a tax invoice carrying the seller’s GSTIN, the item description, the amount charged and your billing details. That invoice is your proof for warranty, for returns, and for a business claiming input tax credit.

What is a GST invoice, exactly?

A GST invoice, or tax invoice, is the document a GST-registered seller in India must issue when it sells goods. It is not a receipt, not a delivery challan and not a WhatsApp screenshot of a payment. It is a numbered document that identifies the seller by GSTIN, describes what was sold, and shows the tax charged separately from the value of the goods.

The important structural point for a buyer: only a business registered under GST can issue one. An individual selling a used laptop on a classifieds app cannot. A shop operating without registration cannot. So the question “will you give me a GST invoice?” is not really a tax question. It is an identity question — you are asking the seller to prove there is a registered legal entity behind the sale.

What appears on a NewAsNew GST invoice

Field What you see
Seller NextG Serve Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi (trading as NewAsNew)
Seller GSTIN Printed on the invoice
Invoice number and date Unique, sequential, dated to the order
Buyer details Your name and billing address, plus your GSTIN if you supplied it
Item description Model as listed, with grade — for example Grade A Certified or Unboxed
Value and tax Taxable value and tax shown separately, with the total payable
Place of supply Your delivery state

The invoice travels with the shipment and is also available to you digitally. If you cannot find it after delivery, message us on WhatsApp with the order number and we will resend it. There is no charge and no condition attached to that — an invoice is your document, not a favour.

Why the invoice matters, even if you never look at it again

  • Warranty. Our 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty runs from the invoice date. The invoice is what fixes that date. For an Unboxed unit still carrying remaining brand warranty, the invoice is also what a brand service centre asks for.
  • Returns. The 7-day return window is counted from delivery and evidenced by the invoice and dispatch record. A dispute is far shorter when both sides are looking at the same numbered document.
  • Proof of ownership. If a laptop is lost, stolen or damaged, the invoice is what an insurer, a police complaint or an office asset register wants. A UPI screenshot is not proof of what you bought.
  • Resale. When you sell the machine on in two years, the original tax invoice is the single thing that most raises a buyer’s confidence — and it is exactly what you would want to see in their position.
  • Company reimbursement. If your employer reimburses equipment for work-from-home, finance teams almost always ask for a tax invoice in a specific name.

For businesses: input tax credit and the one thing you must do before dispatch

A GST-registered business buying equipment can generally claim input tax credit on qualifying purchases, which is one reason startups and small offices buy refurbished business laptops rather than renting. We are not your tax advisers and we will not pretend to be — whether a particular purchase qualifies, and how you record it, is a question for your accountant or CA.

What we can tell you is the operational rule that trips up buyers: your GSTIN and registered business name must be on the invoice, and that means giving them to us before the order is dispatched. Once an invoice is issued to an individual name, it cannot simply be reprinted with a GSTIN attached afterwards. If you are buying for a company, put the GSTIN in at checkout or send it to us on WhatsApp the moment you place the order.

Two more practical notes. Buy in the entity’s name, not a director’s personal name, if the entity is claiming. And keep the invoice with your purchase records rather than in a shipping box — your accountant will want it at filing time, not in March when the box has gone.

Why a GST invoice is the fastest way to tell a real seller from a reseller

The Indian refurbished market has two very different kinds of sellers, and they look almost identical in a search result or an Instagram ad.

Registered company Individual or unregistered reseller
Can issue a GST invoice Yes No
Legal entity you can pursue Yes — a registered company with a CIN and address Usually a phone number
Warranty enforceable against The company Goodwill only
Traceable purchase record Numbered invoice Payment screenshot
Business can claim input tax credit Yes, subject to eligibility No

This is why we lead with it. Anyone can photograph a clean laptop and write “certified” under it. Not everyone can issue you a tax invoice from a registered company. Asking for one costs you a single WhatsApp message and filters out a large share of the market before you have paid anything. Our full checklist for this is in how to buy a refurbished laptop without getting cheated, and the wider trust question is covered in is it safe to buy a refurbished laptop online in India.

What to do if a seller refuses to give you a GST invoice

  1. Ask once, in writing. On WhatsApp or email, before paying: “Will this order come with a GST invoice from a registered company?” Keep the reply.
  2. Listen to the excuse. “We only give a cash bill”, “invoice will cost extra”, “GST is included so no invoice needed”, and “we will give it later” all mean the same thing. A registered seller issuing invoices routinely never hesitates on this question.
  3. Do not pay a premium for it. An invoice is not an add-on service. If a seller quotes one price with a bill and a lower one without, you are being asked to take on their risk.
  4. Walk away if the answer is no. Without an invoice you have no dated warranty start, no documented return window, no proof of ownership and no claimable credit if you are a business. The discount is never worth that.
  5. If you have already paid and the invoice is refused, request it once more in writing, keep every payment record and message, and raise the matter with your payment provider or on the marketplace where you bought. Card and marketplace disputes rely on exactly this paperwork.

What a GST invoice does not tell you

Here is the limit, stated plainly, because a page that only sells you on invoices is not useful.

An invoice proves the sale was legitimate and traceable. It does not prove the laptop is good. A registered company can still ship you a machine with a tired battery, a scratched lid or a hard drive instead of an SSD. The invoice gives you recourse; it does not give you quality.

So use it as a first filter, not a final answer. After the invoice question, ask the questions that actually describe the hardware: is battery health stated as a measured number, what exactly does the warranty cover and exclude, is the storage an SSD, and how long is the return window. Our 50-point quality check exists because the invoice alone was never going to be enough.

One more honest note: an invoice is a document, not a shield against your own hurry. Read what is on it when it arrives — model, grade and amount — and raise a discrepancy inside the 7-day window rather than three weeks later.

Frequently asked questions

Do refurbished laptops come with a GST invoice in India?

They do when the seller is a GST-registered business. Every NewAsNew order ships with a tax invoice from NextG Serve Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, covering both Grade A Certified and Unboxed units. Individual sellers on classifieds and unregistered shops cannot issue one, which is why asking for a GST invoice is the quickest way to identify who you are actually dealing with.

Can I claim input tax credit on a refurbished laptop?

A GST-registered business can generally claim input tax credit on qualifying business purchases, but eligibility depends on your registration and how the asset is used — confirm it with your accountant or CA. Operationally, the requirement is simple: your GSTIN and registered business name must appear on the invoice, so supply them before the order is dispatched, not after.

What details are on a NewAsNew GST invoice?

The seller name and GSTIN of NextG Serve Pvt. Ltd., a unique invoice number and date, your billing name and address, your GSTIN if you provided it, the item description including grade, the taxable value and tax shown separately, the total payable, and the place of supply. The invoice ships with the order and can be resent digitally on request.

What should I do if a seller refuses to give a GST invoice?

Do not complete the purchase. A refusal means you have no dated warranty start, no documented proof of ownership and no claimable credit if you are a business. Ask once in writing before paying and keep the reply. If you have already paid, request it again in writing, preserve all payment records, and raise the matter with your card issuer or the marketplace.

Is a cash bill or payment screenshot the same as a GST invoice?

No. A payment screenshot proves money moved; it does not identify a registered seller, describe what was sold, or show tax separately. A cash bill without a GSTIN carries no more weight. Service centres, insurers, employers and finance teams all ask for a tax invoice specifically, and a dispute with only a screenshot behind it is much harder to win.

Can I get the invoice in my company’s name after delivery?

No, and this catches out a lot of business buyers. An invoice issued to an individual cannot be reissued later against a GSTIN. Give us the registered business name and GSTIN at checkout or on WhatsApp immediately after ordering, before the unit is dispatched. It takes one message and it is the difference between a claimable purchase and a personal one.

Does the GST invoice date decide when my warranty starts?

Yes. The 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty on Grade A units runs from the invoice date, and the 7-day return window runs from delivery. Keeping the invoice means you never have to argue about either. For Unboxed units carrying remaining original brand warranty, a brand service centre will also ask for the invoice as proof of purchase date.

The honest bottom line

A GST invoice is not paperwork you tolerate. It is the cheapest protection available to you in a refurbished purchase, and it costs nothing extra. It fixes your warranty start date, evidences your return window, proves ownership, and lets a business claim what it is entitled to claim.

Ask every seller the question before you pay. We issue one on every order, from a ₹22,490 Dell Latitude 7490 to a ₹74,990 unboxed MacBook Air, because a company that will not put its GSTIN on a document is telling you something about how it plans to handle a problem later.
