Short answer: An Apple launch does not cut refurbished prices overnight. What it does is increase supply, as upgraders sell their old handsets over the following six to ten weeks, and that gradually softens pricing on the two previous generations. It also floods the market with ungraded, unchecked stock at the same time. Both are true. Right now a Grade A Certified iPhone 13 is Rs 30,390, an iPhone 14 is Rs 34,990 and an iPhone 15 is Rs 47,490, all in stock with a 6-month warranty and a GST invoice.

Prices are live as of 6 September 2026 and move with stock — check the linked product page for the current figure before you decide.

What actually happens after a launch?

The mechanism is supply, not sentiment. On launch day nothing about an iPhone 14 changes — same chip, same camera, same battery. What changes is that a segment of owners decides to upgrade, and over the next couple of months their handsets enter the market.

The rough pattern, based on how the Indian market has behaved in previous cycles:

Period after launch What typically happens
Week 0-2 Almost nothing. Attention shifts, prices barely move.
Week 2-6 Trade-in volume rises. Supply of the two prior generations improves.
Week 6-12 The clearest softening on previous-generation pricing.
Beyond 12 weeks Prices stabilise at the new level until the next launch.

In 2026 there is an extra wrinkle. The festive calendar is unusually late — Navratri falls in mid-October, Dussehra on 20 October and Diwali on 8 November — so the post-launch supply wave and the festive demand wave overlap more than they usually do. Demand rising into Diwali partly offsets the extra supply. Do not assume prices will simply fall in a straight line.

Which models move most?

The generation that moves most is not the newest one. It is typically the model two or three years old, because that is where the largest group of upgraders sits.

  • iPhone 13 and 14 — the biggest supply increase, and the best buying opportunity for most Indian budgets.
  • iPhone 15 — moderate movement. Still recent enough that owners hold on.
  • iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max — enthusiasts upgrade every cycle, so Pro supply improves faster than standard, but from a much higher price.
  • iPhone 12 and older — already near their floor. Little further to fall.

The part nobody tells you about buying in this window

The same wave that improves supply also brings the worst stock of the year into circulation. People clearing handsets quickly are not selective, and a lot of what enters the market has a degraded battery, a third-party screen, water damage history, or is region-locked.

Our own numbers say this plainly. Only 2 to 3 out of every 10 devices that reach our QC bench pass; the other 7 to 8 go back to the supplier. The exact figure moves month to month with the stock we are offered, so we publish the range rather than one flattering number. In post-launch months, the rejection side of that ratio is where we spend most of our time.

So the honest advice is: yes, this is a good buying window, and no, it is not a good window to buy from an unverified seller on a classifieds app.

What to check on any refurbished iPhone, in this window especially

  1. Battery health as a number. Settings, Battery, Battery Health. Anything below 85% needs a replacement plan. Ask for the figure before you pay, in writing.
  2. Parts and Service History, in Settings, General, About. iOS flags non-genuine screens and batteries here. This one screen filters out a large share of bad units.
  3. The IMEI, checked on Apple’s own coverage page, to confirm the model, warranty status and that it is not activation-locked.
  4. Face ID working, tested in front of you. It is one of the most common failures on repaired units and one of the most expensive to fix.
  5. A GST invoice. No invoice means no warranty claim, no return, no recourse.

Who should NOT buy in the post-launch window

  • Anyone who would buy from an unverified seller to save Rs 3,000. This is the exact window when that saving turns into a Rs 12,000 battery and screen repair.
  • Anyone waiting for a dramatic crash. It does not happen. Softening is gradual and partial, and this year festive demand pushes back against it.
  • Anyone whose phone is fine. A working iPhone 13 does not need replacing because a new one exists.
  • Anyone who wants the newest features. If you want the A20 Pro chip and the new camera system, buy the new phone. Refurbished is about value, not about being current.

Frequently asked questions

Do refurbished iPhone prices drop after a new iPhone launches in India?

They typically soften gradually over six to twelve weeks as supply increases, rather than dropping on launch day. In 2026 the late festive season, with Diwali on 8 November, adds demand that partly offsets the extra supply.

Which refurbished iPhone is the best value in India in 2026?

For most buyers, the iPhone 13 at Rs 30,390. It has the A15 chip, a very good camera, several years of iOS updates remaining, and it sits at the point where price stops falling as fast as capability does.

How long will an iPhone 13 keep getting iOS updates?

Apple typically provides major iOS updates for around five to seven years from launch, and security updates beyond that. An iPhone 13 launched in 2021 has meaningful support life remaining. Apple does not publish a fixed end date, so treat any specific year as an estimate.

Is it better to buy refurbished right after a launch or before?

After, if you buy from a checked source. Supply is better and pricing is softer. Before a launch, supply is at its tightest.

What battery health should I accept on a refurbished iPhone?

85% or above for a phone you intend to keep two years or more. Below that, factor in the cost of a battery replacement. We record battery health during the 50-point check and state it rather than describing it in adjectives.

Is a Grade A Certified iPhone the same as second-hand?

Every Grade A Certified iPhone was previously owned, and we say so plainly. The difference is what happened in between: a 50-point check across 14 test areas for smartphones, restoration, a 6-month NewAsNew Assured Warranty, 7-day returns and a GST invoice. Roughly 7 to 8 of every 10 units we are offered never make it to the shelf.
