Short answer: Buy the Air if you want a laptop to keep for five years; buy the Pro if you need power and screen size today for the least money. On NewAsNew the Apple MacBook Air 2024 13.6-inch (M3, 8GB, 256GB) Unboxed is ₹74,990, 35% off its ₹1,14,990 MRP. The Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 with Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is ₹41,990, 79% off ₹1,99,900 — far more machine per rupee, but on an Intel platform Apple is retiring.

Why this comparison is not the one Apple’s website shows you
On Apple’s site, Air versus Pro is a clean choice: same chip family, Pro costs more, Pro does more. In the Indian refurbished market it is nothing like that. Here the Pro you can actually afford is an older Intel machine and the Air is a current Apple Silicon machine — so the cheaper laptop is the more powerful one on paper and the more expensive one is the better long-term buy.
That inversion is the whole decision. Everything below is about which side of it you belong on.
What each unit actually is, and what it costs
| Spec | MacBook Air 2024 (Unboxed) | MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 (Pre-Owned) |
|---|---|---|
| Live price | ₹74,990 (MRP ₹1,14,990, 35% off) | ₹41,990 (MRP ₹1,99,900, 79% off) |
| Chip | Apple M3, 8-core CPU, Apple Silicon | Intel Core i7, 6-core, 9th-gen class |
| Memory | 8GB unified, soldered | 16GB |
| Storage | 256GB SSD | 512GB SSD |
| Graphics | Integrated Apple GPU | AMD Radeon Pro 5300M, 4GB dedicated |
| Screen | 13.6-inch Liquid Retina | 16-inch Retina |
| Cooling | Fanless, silent | Twin fans, audible under load |
| Real-world battery | Roughly 9–13 hours mixed use | Roughly 4–6 hours mixed use |
| Weight | Around 1.24 kg | Around 2 kg plus a 96W charger |
| macOS future | Early in its support life | Near the end — Apple has said macOS Tahoe is the last release supporting Intel Macs |

Two other MacBook Pros sit in our catalogue as decision context only and are out of stock, not shippable today: a 16-inch Intel Core i9 with 32GB RAM, and a 16-inch A2485 with the M1 Pro chip. Mentioning them matters because they show the shape of the market — an Apple Silicon Pro costs roughly twice an Intel Pro, and that gap is the price of future macOS support.
Which one wins for your actual work?

Students, writers, consultants, sales, anyone on the move: Air. Weight and battery decide your day, not benchmarks. Carrying 2kg plus a brick charger through a Mumbai local is a real cost you pay every morning.
Video editors, 3D, heavy Lightroom, anyone plugged into a desk: the Intel Pro, or a Windows workstation. 16GB and a dedicated 4GB GPU at ₹41,990 is a genuinely hard offer to beat. Just accept fan noise and a charger permanently attached.
Developers: it depends on your stack. Apple Silicon is excellent for modern web and mobile work and the 8GB Air handles VS Code and a couple of services comfortably. Docker-heavy backend work needs 16GB — which points to the Pro, or to Windows. Our best refurbished laptops for programming and coding post lists the specific configurations.
Buying for a household: Air. Fanless, silent, hard to damage through heat, and it survives being left unplugged for a week.
The Windows question nobody selling MacBooks wants to raise

If your reason for the 16-inch Pro is horsepower rather than macOS, look at the Dell Precision 5550 Core i7 10th Gen with 4GB dedicated graphics at ₹53,990 (68% off ₹1,69,999). It is a certified mobile workstation, it is Windows 11 eligible, its RAM and SSD are user-upgradable, and service parts in India cost a fraction of Apple’s.
That last point deserves emphasis. An out-of-warranty screen or logic board on a 16-inch MacBook Pro can cost more in India than an entire Grade A business laptop. On a Dell Precision, a keyboard, a battery or an SSD is a routine, affordable job. Our post on why ex-corporate laptops are built better covers serviceability in detail.
Three-year cost, not sticker price
| Scenario | Upfront | What happens by 2029 |
|---|---|---|
| MacBook Air M3 at ₹74,990 | ₹74,990 | Still receiving macOS updates, still fast, strong resale value. Likely still your daily machine. |
| MacBook Pro 16″ Intel at ₹41,990 | ₹41,990 | Off the macOS upgrade path, on security updates at best. Fine offline or on Linux; weak resale. |
| Intel Pro now, Apple Silicon later | ₹41,990 today, a second purchase around 2029 | Two purchases. Sensible only if you genuinely need 16GB and a 16-inch screen right now. |
We run this arithmetic properly in refurbished vs new laptop: the real three-year cost of ownership in India.
Who should NOT buy either of these
Not every product deserves to be sold. Walk away from both if:
Your software is Windows-only. Tally, most GST and CA utilities, Windows-bound AutoCAD workflows, several bank and college portals. A MacBook will cost you hours every week. Buy a Windows business laptop instead — start with best refurbished laptops under ₹45,000.
You want a MacBook mainly for status. Say it plainly to yourself first. If a ₹34,990 EliteBook does the work, the extra ₹40,000 is buying a logo, and that is a bad use of borrowed money.
You need 16GB on Apple Silicon but can only afford the 8GB Air. Do not buy 8GB and hope. Memory is soldered. Either wait and save, or buy 16GB in Windows today.
You are buying the Intel Pro as a long-term machine. It is not one in 2026. Buy it with a two- to three-year horizon and clear eyes, or do not buy it.
You game seriously. Neither machine is for you. macOS gaming is still thin and the Radeon Pro 5300M is a professional GPU, not a gaming one.
Frequently asked questions
Is the M3 Air faster than the Intel MacBook Pro 16-inch?
In single-core and in short bursts, yes, comfortably. In sustained multi-core work and anything GPU-accelerated, the 6-core Intel Pro with its Radeon Pro 5300M and active cooling can pull ahead. For browsing, Office and meetings the Air feels faster; for a long export the Pro often finishes first.
Why is the MacBook Pro so much cheaper than the Air?
Because the market prices future macOS support, not raw specs. The A2141 is a 2019-generation Intel machine near the end of Apple’s software road map, so its price has fallen 79% from its ₹1,99,900 MRP. The Air is a 2024 machine at the start of its life.
Which has the better screen?
The 16-inch Pro wins on size and on how much you can see at once. The Air’s Liquid Retina panel is the newer, brighter, more efficient display. If you work in spreadsheets or timelines all day, size usually matters more.
Can I run Windows on either?
On the Intel MacBook Pro, yes — Boot Camp works. On Apple Silicon there is no Boot Camp; you run Windows on ARM inside a virtual machine, which handles many apps but not all, and not reliably for Windows-only professional tools.
Is Unboxed better than Grade A Certified?
Unboxed is closer to new in condition: sealed box opened, machine unused or barely used. Grade A Certified is slightly used and restored to a high standard. Both are covered by warranty and 7-day returns. Our Unboxed vs refurbished vs Grade A explainer covers the difference properly.
Do both come with a GST invoice and EMI?
Yes — GST invoice, warranty, 7-day returns and EMI on every order. ₹41,990 over 12 months is roughly ₹3,500 a month before bank charges; ₹74,990 is roughly ₹6,250.
What should I check on any used MacBook before paying?
Battery cycle count and condition, serial number against Apple’s coverage page, keyboard and trackpad, all ports, screen for staining, and the Apple ID being fully removed. Our 15 questions to ask before buying any refurbished laptop is the full list.
Is a bigger MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip available?
We have listed one — a 16-inch A2485 with M1 Pro — but it is currently out of stock and cannot be ordered. We will not take payment for stock we do not hold. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly when a unit clears QC.
