Short answer: Every Grade A Certified laptop from NewAsNew, including the Dell Latitude 5490 Core i5 8th Gen at ₹23,490, carries a 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty covering the motherboard, display, keyboard, ports, hinges and storage. Three things are excluded: the battery, physical damage and liquid damage. Unboxed units carry the remaining original brand warranty of up to 12 months on top of our cover. Every order includes a GST invoice and a 7-day return window.

What is covered and what is not
A warranty is only useful if you know its edges before you need it, so here they are without softening.
| Component | Covered under NewAsNew Assured | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Motherboard and processor | Yes | The most expensive possible failure, and the one that ends a laptop |
| Display panel | Yes | Backlight failure, dead pixel clusters, panel faults |
| Keyboard and trackpad | Yes | Non-responding keys, trackpad failure |
| Ports | Yes | USB, HDMI, audio jack, charging port, Ethernet |
| Hinges | Yes | The most common structural failure point on any laptop |
| Storage (SSD) | Yes | Drive failure; your data is your responsibility, keep backups |
| RAM, Wi-Fi card, cooling fan | Yes | Internal components fitted at the time of sale |
| Battery | No | A consumable that wears with use, excluded by essentially every laptop warranty |
| Physical damage | No | Drops, cracked screens, dented lids, broken hinges from impact |
| Liquid damage | No | Spills, rain, humidity damage from storage |
| Software, operating system, viruses | No | We help where we can, but this is not a hardware fault |
| Accessories and consumables | No | Charger cable wear, bags, external items |
None of these exclusions is specific to refurbished. Buy a brand-new laptop from any manufacturer in India and its warranty will exclude physical damage and liquid damage in exactly the same way, and cap battery cover. Accidental damage protection is sold separately, everywhere, by everyone.
Why the battery is excluded, and what to do about it
A lithium-ion battery is a consumable. It loses capacity with every charge cycle by physical necessity, not by defect, and a warranty covers things that fail unexpectedly rather than things that wear out predictably. This is why brand-new laptops from Dell, HP and Lenovo also cap or exclude battery capacity cover.
What we do instead is remove the uncertainty before you buy. Every listing states a measured battery health band taken from the unit itself, not an estimate by model. Knowing what you are getting before you pay is more useful than a clause you would have to argue about later. Our battery health explainer covers what those numbers mean in hours.
If runtime matters, budget roughly ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 for a replacement Latitude battery — an approximate range worth confirming locally — and fit it whenever you like. Or buy Unboxed instead, where the battery has never been used.
Grade A and Unboxed are covered differently
| Grade A Certified | Unboxed | |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Used, professionally restored | Box opened, never used — returns, display units, surplus |
| NewAsNew Assured cover | 6 months | 6 months |
| Original brand warranty | Expired | Remaining balance, up to 12 months |
| Effective position | Single cover from us | Double cover — ours plus the brand’s |
| Battery | Used, measured band stated | Unused |
| Return window | 7 days | 7 days |
That difference in cover is a real deciding factor alongside price and battery. Our Unboxed versus Grade A decision framework works through the rest.
How to claim, step by step
- Message us on WhatsApp at +91 79822 35917 with your order number, the invoice, and a clear description of the fault. A short video of the problem happening is worth more than a paragraph describing it.
- We try the simple diagnosis first. Many reported faults turn out to be a driver, a setting or a loose connection, and we would rather solve it in ten minutes on chat than have you post a working laptop across the country.
- If it needs to come in, we arrange the return leg and tell you how to pack it. Pack it properly — a laptop damaged in transit in a thin carton becomes physical damage, which is excluded.
- Back up your data before sending. Repair may involve replacing storage or reinstalling the operating system, and we cannot guarantee data survives it.
- We diagnose, then tell you the expected timeline before work starts, along with confirmation that the fault is covered.
- We repair or replace the faulty component and send the unit back.
Realistic turnaround. The repair itself is rarely the slow part — courier movement is. Budget a courier leg each way, in practice two days for a metro address and five or more for a smaller town, plus diagnosis and repair in between. We give you an estimated date once we have seen the unit, because we would rather quote a date we can meet than a headline number we cannot.
The full process, including what documentation to keep, is set out in our NewAsNew Assured warranty page.
Warranty is not the same as returns
The 7-day return window is for the first week, when you are deciding whether the machine is right for you. Wrong choice, not as described, changed your mind — that is a return, and nothing has to be broken. Check everything in that week: screen for dead pixels, every port, every key, Wi-Fi, webcam, speakers, the battery report and the Windows activation state. The returns process is explained here.
The 6-month warranty exists for months two to six, when a component fails that was working when you received it. It is not a route to changing your mind about the purchase.
Why 6 months on a tested business laptop is a stronger signal than 12 months on an untested one
Warranty length is the easiest thing in this industry to advertise and the least informative — a number on a listing costs nothing to print. What matters is who honours it, on what, and how likely you are to need it at all. Three points, honestly reasoned:
- Electronic failures cluster at the start. Components that fail early usually fail in the first weeks, after which the failure rate flattens for years. A machine that has completed three years of daily corporate service is past that early-failure window entirely.
- Testing before sale beats cover after sale. Our 50-point quality check is designed to find faults before a unit is listed, not after you have discovered them. A warranty you never need to use is worth more than one you use twice.
- The category matters more than the clause. We only sell business-series machines — metal chassis, steel hinges, socketed RAM, spare parts stocked across India for years. A twelve-month warranty on a plastic consumer laptop with a soldered board is a promise about a machine that is harder to repair once those months end.
None of that means a longer warranty would be worse — it would be better, and we will not pretend otherwise. It means length alone is the wrong thing to compare sellers on. Compare what is covered, who you speak to when something breaks, and whether the exclusions were stated before you paid or after.
Who should not rely on this warranty
Directly:
- You need multi-year on-site cover. If your business requires a technician at your desk the next working day for three years, buy new with a manufacturer’s on-site pack. That product exists and this is not it.
- You need accidental damage cover. Drops and spills are excluded here, as in nearly every standard warranty. If your usage is genuinely rough, buy separate accidental damage protection and treat it as part of the budget.
- Battery runtime is your primary requirement. The battery is excluded. Buy Unboxed, or price in a replacement.
- You are deploying a fleet with a formal SLA. Talk to us on WhatsApp about bulk terms before ordering rather than assuming the standard cover fits an organisational requirement.

Frequently asked questions
What does a refurbished laptop warranty cover in India?
With NewAsNew, a 6-month NewAsNew Assured warranty covering the motherboard, display, keyboard, trackpad, ports, hinges, storage, RAM, Wi-Fi card and cooling fan. Battery, physical damage and liquid damage are excluded, as they are under most new-laptop warranties too. Cover in the wider Indian refurbished market varies considerably, so always ask a seller for the written list of what is included before paying.
Is the battery covered under a refurbished laptop warranty?
No, and this is standard across the industry including on brand-new laptops, because a battery is a consumable that loses capacity through normal use rather than a component that fails unexpectedly. Instead of a clause, we state a measured battery health band on every listing so you know the position before you buy. A replacement Latitude battery costs roughly ₹2,500 to ₹3,500 in India.
How do I claim warranty on a refurbished laptop?
Message us on WhatsApp at +91 79822 35917 with your order number, your GST invoice and a description or short video of the fault. We attempt a remote diagnosis first, since many reported faults turn out to be software or a setting. If the unit needs to come in, we arrange the return, confirm the fault is covered, give you an expected timeline, and repair or replace the component.
How long does a warranty repair take in India?
The repair work itself is usually not the slow part — courier movement in both directions is, which typically runs two days each way for a metro address and longer for smaller towns. We give you an estimated completion date once we have received the unit and identified the fault, rather than quoting a fixed headline number, and we tell you separately if a part has to be sourced.
Is a 6-month warranty enough on a refurbished laptop?
For a tested business-series machine, generally yes, because electronic failures cluster in the first weeks of a component’s life and a three-year-old corporate laptop is well past that window. The stronger protections are the 50-point quality check before listing and the fact that business-series parts remain widely available in India for years. If you need multi-year on-site cover, buy new with a manufacturer support pack instead.
Do Unboxed laptops have a longer warranty than Grade A?
Effectively yes. Both grades carry the same 6-month NewAsNew Assured cover, but an Unboxed unit has never been used, so the remaining balance of the original manufacturer’s warranty — up to 12 months — still applies alongside ours. That gives Unboxed buyers two independent routes to a repair. Grade A Certified units have expired brand warranties, so our cover is the only one in force.
The honest bottom line
Our cover is 6 months on Grade A across everything structural and electronic, excluding the battery, drops and spills. Unboxed adds the remainder of the brand’s own warranty on top. Every order gets a GST invoice and a 7-day window in which to change your mind for any reason.
When comparing sellers, do not compare the length of the number. Compare whether the exclusions were stated before you paid, whether battery health was measured or described with an adjective, whether a GST invoice is issued, and whether there is a real person to message when something goes wrong. A seller who tells you the bad parts up front expects you to still be a customer in year three.
