Short answer: Often yes, but only if you compare like for like. Our Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch A2141 Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD is ₹41,990 — 79% off its ₹1,99,900 MRP — which is entry-level new-Windows-laptop money for a machine with a 16-inch Retina screen and dedicated graphics. The Apple MacBook Air 2024 M3 Unboxed at ₹74,990 saves ₹40,000 against its ₹1,14,990 MRP. Cheap new Windows laptops usually win on price alone, and lose on build.

First, a word about the prices we will not print
You will find dozens of articles claiming “a new Windows laptop with these specs costs ₹X”. We are not going to do that, for one reason: we do not sell new laptops, new prices in India move every week, and RAM and SSD costs have been climbing through 2026. Any figure we typed here would be stale before you read it.
What we will give you is our own live prices, which we can verify, and a method to compare them honestly against whatever the new market is charging on the day you shop. If you want the background on why new prices have been rising, read why laptop prices are rising in India in 2026.

Now take those four rows to any new-laptop listing and check what your money buys new on the same day. Be strict about it.
The six-point comparison that stops you overpaying
Most people compare processor names and screen sizes. Those are the least important lines. Compare these instead.
1. Chassis material and hinge. A magnesium or aluminium business body with a metal hinge outlasts a plastic consumer shell by years. This is the single biggest quality gap between a refurbished business laptop and a cheap new one, and it never appears in a spec sheet. See why ex-corporate laptops are built better.
2. Screen quality, not screen size. Many budget new laptops still ship dim, low-coverage panels. Check nits and sRGB coverage, not inches. Our screen specs guide tells you what numbers to demand.
3. SSD type and size. An NVMe drive versus SATA changes daily feel more than the processor does. Read NVMe vs SATA SSD.
4. RAM, and whether you can add more. 8GB soldered is a ceiling. 8GB with a free slot is a starting point. On a MacBook it is always a ceiling.
5. Keyboard, trackpad, ports. You touch these every hour. Backlit keyboard, a real trackpad, and the ports you actually need — check our ports explainer before assuming a USB-C socket does everything.
6. Cost of repair in your city. Ask what a screen or battery costs for that model in India. For Apple, the number is high. For Dell and HP business lines, it is low and parts are everywhere. This line often decides the true three-year cost.
Where a new Windows laptop genuinely wins

We sell refurbished. That does not make new the wrong answer.
A new machine gives you a full manufacturer warranty, a brand-new battery with zero cycles, the latest wireless standards, and a current-generation chip with years of operating-system support ahead. If your budget is genuinely at the very bottom of the market and you want maximum warranty per rupee, a new entry-level Windows laptop is a defensible choice.
It is also the right choice if you need something very specific that the used business market does not supply: a gaming GPU, a touchscreen convertible with a stylus in a particular size, or a lightweight machine with 32GB and 2TB that you would otherwise have to buy at Apple’s storage prices.
Where new loses is the middle of the market. At ₹35,000–₹45,000, a new consumer laptop typically means a plastic body, a mediocre screen and a 15-inch footprint, while the same money buys an 11th Gen business ultrabook that was built to a corporate durability standard. That is the trade we think is badly understood in India, and we set it out with numbers in refurbished vs new laptop: which should you buy in India.
Three-year cost is the only number that matters
| Cost line | Refurbished MacBook / business laptop | New budget Windows laptop |
|---|---|---|
| Upfront | Lower — 50% to 79% off MRP on our current stock | Higher for the same build class; lower for plastic entry models |
| Warranty | NewAsNew Assured warranty plus 7-day returns | Manufacturer warranty, usually one year |
| Battery | Used cycles on Grade A; negligible cycles on Unboxed | Brand new |
| Repairs over 3 years | Low on Dell and HP business lines; high on Apple out of warranty | Varies; plastic hinges and ports are the usual failures |
| Upgrade headroom | RAM and SSD upgradable on business laptops; fixed on MacBooks | Often soldered on thin budget models |
| Resale after 3 years | Business laptops hold value; Intel Macs are falling faster | Budget consumer laptops resell poorly |
The full arithmetic, including realistic repair and resale assumptions, is in the real three-year cost of ownership in India.
Who should NOT buy a refurbished MacBook to save money
Not every product deserves to be sold. Buy new, or buy Windows, if any of this is you:
You only want the cheapest working laptop. Then a MacBook is the wrong category entirely. A Grade A business laptop under ₹25,000 beats both a refurbished MacBook and a new budget Windows machine on cost per year of useful life.
You need Windows-only software. Tally, most GST and CA tools, Windows-bound engineering software, several bank and college portals. Saving money on a machine that cannot run your work is not saving money.
You want maximum warranty length above everything. New wins on that specific metric. Say so and buy new.
You are buying an Intel MacBook as a five-year machine. It is not one. Apple has said macOS Tahoe is the last release supporting Intel Macs. We explain the timeline in Intel MacBook vs Apple Silicon in 2026.
You would be stretching onto a long EMI for the MacBook Air. Interest is a real cost. If the honest budget is ₹35,000, buy at ₹35,000.
You game. Neither a MacBook nor a business ultrabook is for you. Buy a new gaming laptop.
Frequently asked questions
Is a refurbished MacBook cheaper than a new Windows laptop in India?
Compared with a new laptop of similar build quality, screen and memory, usually yes — our MacBook Pro 16-inch is ₹41,990 against a ₹1,99,900 MRP. Compared with the cheapest new plastic Windows laptops, no. The honest answer depends entirely on which new laptop you place beside it.
Why do you not list new laptop prices in this post?
Because we cannot verify them live and they change weekly. We publish only prices we read from our own store on the day. Check the new market yourself on the day you buy, using the six-point comparison above.
Does a refurbished MacBook come with a warranty and GST invoice?
Yes — NewAsNew Assured warranty, 7-day returns, EMI and a GST invoice on every order. See what the warranty covers.
Is Unboxed the same as refurbished?
No. Unboxed means the sealed box was opened and the unit is like-new. Grade A Certified means slightly used and restored. Our honest difference guide lays out all three.
What about resale value — does a MacBook hold value better?
Apple Silicon MacBooks hold value very well. Intel MacBooks are currently losing value faster than equivalent Dell and HP business laptops, because their macOS support is ending while Windows 11 support continues.
Will festive sales make new laptops cheaper than refurbished?
Sales discount specific new models heavily and leave others untouched. Refurbished pricing barely moves in a sale because it is already discounted against MRP. We break it down in what actually gets cheaper in a sale.
Do refurbished Windows laptops come with a genuine Windows licence?
Yes on our business-series machines. The details, including how to verify activation yourself, are in do refurbished laptops come with a genuine Windows licence.
What is the safest way to buy either, online, in India?
Buy from a registered company with a GST invoice, a written warranty, a stated returns window and real inspection records. Our reality check is here: is it safe to buy a refurbished laptop online in India.
